About the Arizona CDL knowledge test
The General Knowledge test is the written exam every CDL applicant sits, whatever class of license they are working toward. The questions come from the Arizona CDL manual, they are multiple choice, and you need 80% to pass. Arizona Motor Vehicle Division gives the test, and passing it is what earns your commercial learner's permit, the permit you hold before taking the skills test in a truck.

What Arizona requires
- Knowledge tests need 80 percent to pass, and a failed test can only be retaken the next business day.
- The CLP must be held for at least 14 days before a skills-test appointment.
- A Class C CLP must carry the Passenger endorsement and cannot carry HazMat.
- Third-party examiners set their own charges on top of the state road-test fee.
