This policy explains what information BeginCDL.com ("we", "us") collects when you use this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us at support@begincdl.com.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed version of your password. We never store your password in readable form.
Purchase information. When you buy study material we store what you bought, the price, the state you selected, the date, and a payment reference. Your card number is entered on a form provided by our payment processor and is sent directly to them; it never reaches our servers. We receive only a confirmation, the card brand, and the last four digits.
Study activity. We record practice quiz attempts and scores so you can see your progress and so the material can be improved.
Technical information. Like most websites, our server records the IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time of each request. We use this to keep the site secure and to fix problems.
Support messages. If you contact us, we keep the message so we can help you and refer back to it.
How we use it
- To provide the study material you purchased and keep track of when your access expires.
- To send you receipts, account emails such as password resets, and replies to your questions.
- To process payments and handle refunds.
- To protect the site, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To understand which material is used and improve it.
We do not sell your information, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask for it.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. When you make a purchase, your card details go directly from your browser to Stripe. Stripe uses this information to process the payment and detect fraud, as described in its own privacy policy. We receive a payment confirmation, the card brand and last four digits, and the name and billing postal code you enter.
Cookies
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and to remember your cart and the state you selected. It contains a random identifier only.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and how people move through them. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (for example _ga) and collects anonymized usage data, including a truncated IP address, browser and device type, and pages viewed. It does not see your name, email address, or card details. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser; the site works without them.
We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors interact with pages (clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement) so we can find confusing parts of the site and fix them. Clarity masks the text you type into forms, and card details are entered in fields hosted by our payment processor that Clarity cannot see. Clarity sets its own cookies and is subject to the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
We do not use advertising cookies.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the companies that help us run the site: our payment processor (Stripe), our web hosting provider, our email delivery service, Google Analytics, and Microsoft Clarity. Each receives only what it needs to do its job. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
How long we keep it
Account and purchase records are kept for as long as you have an account and for seven years afterwards for tax and accounting purposes. Quiz activity is kept while your account exists. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.
Your choices
- You can update your name and email from your account page at any time.
- You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to delete your account. Email support@begincdl.com. We may need to keep purchase records for the accounting period described above.
- You can decline cookies in your browser, but you will not be able to sign in or check out.
Security
Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted, and access to customer data is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if you believe your account has been accessed without permission, contact us right away.
Children
This site is for people preparing for a commercial driver license and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you by email or with a notice on the site.
