Getting Your CDL in Hawaii
How to book the skills test
Hawaii's CDL program is run by the counties, not the state. On Oahu, the City and County of Honolulu gives both the written and the practical (skills) tests at its CDL office at 897 Second Street, Pearl City; practical-test appointments are made in person only, 14 days after the permit is issued, at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., or 1 p.m. on weekdays. Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai counties run their own CDL testing through their driver licensing offices with similar rules. Bring your permit, medical certificate, and a vehicle for the class you want.
Wait times and timing tips
The counties do not publish wait times. Honolulu's practical-test fee is paid in advance, is not refundable, and no rescheduling is allowed, so book only when you are ready. Written exams in Honolulu are given 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
